Looking for a Vineyard photographer? Hi — I’m Jen, and I’d love to work with you. I photograph families, weddings, maternity sessions, newborns, seniors, and branding work all over Utah County, and Vineyard has quickly become one of my favorite places to shoot. This city barely existed ten years ago. Now it’s full of young families, brand-new parks, and Utah Lake views that make my job almost unfairly easy. I drive down from South Weber (about an hour, give or take — worth every minute) because the light off that lake is something I can’t get anywhere else along the Wasatch Front.
Vineyard — the newest city with the best light
Vineyard is still figuring itself out, and honestly, that’s part of what makes it so fun to photograph here. You’ve got The Groves development with its fresh streetscapes and open common areas, Utah Lake shoreline that stretches out forever, and construction cranes mixed with playgrounds. It’s a city being built in real time, and there’s an energy here that shows up in photos — everything feels new and hopeful and full of possibility.
The lake access is the real gem. That shoreline light during golden hour? Unreal. The sun drops toward the west over the lake, and you get this warm, glowing backlight that wraps around everything. I’ve shot family sessions here where the water is just shimmering behind everyone and the whole scene looks like a painting. Except nobody’s posing stiffly — the kids are throwing rocks in the water and the parents are cracking up. That’s the good stuff.
If you’re in Vineyard, Orem, or Lindon, I know the spots. And if you’ve got a favorite corner of your neighborhood that means something to you, even better. Let’s shoot there.
What I photograph in Vineyard
Families
Family sessions in Vineyard are a blast. So many young families here, little kids everywhere, and the whole city is basically designed for the lifestyle stuff I love to capture. We’ll find a park, a stretch of shoreline, or one of those wide-open green spaces between the new developments — and then I’ll let your family do their thing. Chase each other. Be goofy. Snuggle up when I ask. The photos that end up being your favorites are always the ones where everyone forgot I was there. I promise — I’ve done this enough to know how to wrangle toddlers and make awkward dads relax. (No offense to the dads. You all warm up by minute ten.)
Weddings & Elopements
As a Vineyard photographer who’s shot weddings all over northern Utah, I can tell you that lakeside ceremonies here hit different. There’s something about exchanging vows with Utah Lake stretching out behind you and the mountains going purple in the distance. I bring a calm, documentary style to every wedding — my job is to capture what’s actually happening, not stage a magazine shoot. The tears, the laughter, the weird uncle dancing. All of it. If you’re planning a Vineyard wedding or looking at venues nearby in Orem or Lindon, check out my wedding photography page for more about how I work.
Maternity
The open shoreline in Vineyard is hands-down one of the best maternity session backdrops in Utah County. Wide sky, soft light reflecting off the water, and enough space to feel like you’re the only person for miles (even though there’s a neighborhood two minutes away). I photograph maternity sessions between 28 and 34 weeks — that’s the sweet spot where your bump is beautifully prominent and you can still move comfortably. Bring a dress that flows. The lake breeze does half the work for us.
Newborns
For newborn sessions, I come to you. You just had a baby — the last thing you need is to load up the car and drive somewhere. I bring simple wraps and work with your home’s natural window light. We move at baby’s pace (which usually means: feed, sleep, photograph, repeat). The focus is on the tiny details — curled fingers, sleepy yawns, the way they fit in the crook of your arm. Parents and siblings are always part of it. This is about your whole family right now, in this moment.
Senior Pictures
Vineyard seniors — you’ve got options. The modern architecture and streetscapes in The Groves give a clean, urban feel. The lake trail offers something more natural and open. Or we go five minutes into Orem for totally different vibes. I build every senior session around who you actually are. Your sport, your instrument, your personality. Two to three outfit changes, locations that match your style, and a gallery that’s unmistakably you. Not generic. Not cookie-cutter. You.
Branding & Headshots
Vineyard is full of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and remote workers building something from scratch — kind of like the city itself. If you need professional headshots, lifestyle branding images, or content for your website and socials, I shoot with a clean, natural style that feels approachable without being casual. Real lighting, real settings, real you. Just polished enough to look intentional.
Vineyard photo locations and when they shine
| Location | Look & Feel | Best Time |
|---|---|---|
| Utah Lake shoreline trail | Wide-open water views, soft sand, big sky backdrops | Year-round, golden hour (especially summer — the sunsets are insane) |
| The Groves common areas | Modern streetscapes, clean lines, young neighborhood energy | Spring through fall, evening light |
| Vineyard Connector Trail | Paved paths, open fields, mountain panoramas east and west | Spring and fall, golden hour |
| Lakeside Park | Playground areas, grass, casual family-friendly setting | Late spring through fall, evening |
| Nearby Lindon Marina area | Docks, water reflections, slightly more rustic lakeside feel | Summer and fall, sunset |
This isn’t an exhaustive list — Vineyard is still growing and new spots pop up constantly. If you’ve got a place that matters to you, I want to hear about it. Some of my favorite sessions have been in locations clients picked because it meant something to them.
Planning your Vineyard session
- What to wear: Soft, muted tones photograph beautifully — think dusty blue, sage, cream, terra cotta, warm neutrals. Coordinate as a family but don’t all wear the same thing. Skip the neon and big logos.
- Timing: Golden hour along the lake is magic. That warm light reflecting off the water gives us the kind of glow you can’t fake with editing. I’ll set the exact time based on season — in summer we’re starting around 7:30 PM, in fall more like 5:30.
- Kids and snacks: Non-negotiable. Bring snacks. Bring a small toy for transitions. And let them be kids. The running-around shots are almost always the winners. I know how to work with tiny humans who’d rather splash in the lake than smile at a camera.
- Keep it real: Walk toward me, pick up your kid, whisper something funny to your partner. I give gentle direction, but the best images come from genuine interaction. Stiff posing is not my thing (and it’s probably not yours either).
My style — what you’re actually getting
I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, using natural light for almost every session. My editing is clean, warm, and true to life — no heavy filters, no orange skin, no blown-out skies. Colors look real. Skin looks like skin. Every gallery includes black and white edits because some moments just hit harder that way. I want your photos to look as good on your wall in twenty years as they do today. Timeless over trendy, every time.
Vineyard through the seasons
Spring is green and fresh — the lake fills up, the grass comes in, and the mountains behind Orem still have snow on top. It’s one of my favorite contrasts to shoot against. Summer is golden hour paradise. The sun doesn’t set until after 9 PM, the light off the lake is ridiculous, and there’s a relaxed energy everywhere. Fall brings cooler air and warm tones — the fields turn gold, the light gets softer earlier, and there’s a crispness that makes everything feel more intimate. Winter in Vineyard is underrated. Frosted fields, quiet lakeside paths, and that clean cold-air light can be absolutely beautiful for the right session. (Just bring layers. Lots of layers.)
Questions I hear a lot
- How far ahead should I book? Two to four weeks for regular sessions. Weddings — three to six months out is ideal, earlier if it’s peak season.
- What if the weather doesn’t cooperate? We reschedule, no charge. But honestly? Overcast skies are some of my favorite shooting conditions. Even, soft light everywhere.
- How many photos will I get? Depends on session type and length — typically 30 to 80 fully edited images.
- Do you shoot at other Utah County locations too? Absolutely. I work throughout the area — Mapleton, Cedar Hills, Payson, and everywhere in between.
- Can we bring our dog? Please do. Leash for safety, treats for bribery, and patience for everyone. Dogs make sessions better.
- What about prints and albums? Yes — lab-quality prints, canvases, and heirloom albums available through your online gallery.
