Looking for an Ogden photographer? You’ve found one who lives here, works here, and knows this city’s light like the back of her hand. I’m Jen — a family photographer, wedding storyteller, and portrait artist based right here in Ogden, Utah. From the brick-lined character of Historic 25th Street to the sweeping foothill views above the east bench, Ogden is where I do my best work. Families, couples, seniors, newborns, and local businesses — I photograph the people and moments that make this city feel like home. If you want images that are natural, warm, and unmistakably you, let’s talk.

Why Ogden is my home base — and my favorite place to shoot

Ogden sits at the confluence of the Ogden and Weber Rivers, backed by the dramatic Wasatch Range and looking west across the Great Salt Lake basin. It’s a city with layers — historic railroad heritage, a thriving arts scene, world-class outdoor recreation, and neighborhoods that each carry their own personality. I’ve photographed everywhere from the gardens along the Ogden River Parkway to the quiet streets near Weber State University, and I keep discovering new pockets of beauty.

What makes Ogden special for photography is the range. Within twenty minutes I can take you from urban brick textures and neon signs on 25th Street to wildflower meadows at the mouth of Ogden Canyon. The Wasatch foothills provide golden-hour backdrops that rival anywhere in the state, and the city’s east bench elevation means we catch light longer than the valley floor. Whether you want something polished and editorial or relaxed and outdoorsy, Ogden delivers — and as a local Ogden photographer, I know exactly where and when.

I also regularly photograph in surrounding Weber County communities like North Ogden, South Ogden, and Roy. If you’re anywhere along the Wasatch Front from Brigham City to Layton, I’m happy to work with you — but Ogden will always be home.

What I photograph in Ogden

Families

Family photography in Ogden is what I was made for. The parks are generous, the mountain light is forgiving, and there’s always a spot where kids can run without anyone stressing. I focus on real interaction — the tickle fights, the shoulder rides, the quiet moment when your toddler reaches for your face. We’ll get the classic group portrait for the mantle, but the images you’ll treasure most are the ones where everyone forgot the camera was there. I use play-based prompts and keep things moving so little ones stay engaged and parents stay relaxed. Ogden’s outdoor spaces — from Beus Pond to the Botanical Gardens — give us room to breathe and backgrounds that do the heavy lifting.

Weddings & Elopements

As an Ogden wedding photographer, I’ve covered ceremonies at venues throughout the city and surrounding canyons. Ogden offers a rare combination: urban sophistication on 25th Street, mountain drama in Ogden Canyon, and quiet garden settings along the river. I approach every wedding with a calm, documentary mindset — capturing what’s real rather than manufacturing moments. I’ll help you build a photo-friendly timeline, handle family formals efficiently, and make sure we steal away for sunset portraits when the Wasatch lights up. Whether it’s a grand reception or an intimate elopement at Waterfall Canyon, I bring steady energy and honest images.

Maternity

Ogden’s foothill trails and sheltered garden paths create beautiful maternity settings without requiring a long hike. I love sessions where the mountains frame the background while you stand in soft, filtered light — it gives the images a sense of place and possibility. Sessions work best between 28 and 34 weeks, and I’ll guide every pose so you feel confident and gorgeous. We’ll choose locations with wind protection and easy access, because comfort always comes first. Bring a dress that flows and highlights your belly, and the rest falls into place.

Newborns

For newborn sessions in Ogden, I come to you. New parents have enough going on without packing up a days-old baby for a studio visit. I bring simple wraps, work with your home’s natural window light, and move at your baby’s pace. Feeding breaks, diaper changes, fussy stretches — all normal, all built into the timeline. The images focus on the details that disappear fast: tiny fingers, sleeping expressions, the way they curl into your chest. Parents and siblings are always part of the session, because this is about your whole family in this beautiful, exhausting, brand-new chapter.

Senior Pictures

Ogden seniors have access to one of the most diverse backdrops in Utah. Historic 25th Street for gritty urban texture, Weber State University for campus architecture, the Ogden River Parkway for natural greens, or the east bench foothills for wide-open mountain views. I tailor every senior session to who you are — your sport, your art, your personality, your style. We’ll plan two or three outfit changes and locations that match your energy. The result is senior portraits that feel modern, confident, and unmistakably yours — not a cookie-cutter template.

Real Estate & Branding

Ogden’s market is competitive, and strong visuals make the difference. For real estate, I deliver bright, accurate interiors with straight verticals, balanced window light, and curb appeal exteriors — including twilight shots when a listing calls for it. For branding and headshot work, I help Ogden professionals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners present themselves with clarity and warmth. Clean headshots for your website, lifestyle imagery for social media, product photography for your online store — whatever your business needs to look as good as it actually is.

Ogden locations and when they shine

One of the reasons I love being based in Ogden is the sheer variety of shooting locations within a short drive. Here are some of my favorites:

Location Look & Feel Best Time
Historic 25th Street & Union Station Brick textures, neon signs, urban character, railroad history Early morning for empty streets, evening when lights glow
Ogden Botanical Gardens Curated paths, seasonal blooms, river shimmer, garden variety Late afternoon for soft shade, spring through fall for peak color
Beus Pond Park Water reflections, willows, easy walking paths, kid-friendly Golden hour year-round, overcast days for even light
9th Street Trailhead / East Bench Foothills Open grassland, panoramic mountain views, spacious frames One hour before sunset for warm rim light
Ogden River Parkway Tree-lined paths, river banks, natural greens, shaded canopy Morning or evening, gorgeous in every season
Weber State University Campus Stone buildings, manicured lawns, academic character Golden hour or overcast for soft, even light
Ogden Canyon (lower mouth area) Dramatic rock walls, river, canyon depth, mountain immersion Late spring through fall, morning or golden hour

This barely scratches the surface. Ogden Canyon alone offers dozens of pull-offs and creekside meadows worth exploring, and neighborhoods from the Jefferson Historic District to the east bench each have their own visual character. If you have a spot that means something to you — a favorite trail, your backyard, the place you got engaged — I’d love to shoot there.

Planning your session without the fuss

  • Wardrobe that photographs well: Soft, muted tones work beautifully against Ogden’s natural palette — dusty blue, sage, cream, terra cotta, warm grey. Avoid neon, large logos, and busy patterns. Coordinate as a family but don’t match identically. Texture beats solid every time.
  • Timing that flatters: Ogden’s east bench elevation catches golden hour light beautifully. The foothills glow while the valley floor is already in shadow, giving us extra time with that warm, directional light. I’ll set session timing based on season and location for the best results.
  • Kids, snacks, sanity: Pack snacks and water — non-negotiable. A small toy for transitions helps. The golden rule: let them be kids. I know how to work with little ones who’d rather run than sit still, and those running shots are usually the ones that end up framed.
  • Movement over stiffness: Walk toward me, pick up your kid, dance in the field, lean into each other. The best images come from real interaction, not rigid posing. I give direction loosely because genuine connection always photographs better than rehearsed smiles.

For maternity sessions, a fitted or flowing gown works beautifully against the Wasatch backdrop. Newborn sessions require almost nothing from you — a warm house, a fed baby, and I handle the rest. Seniors should bring two or three outfits and tell me their vibe so I can match locations to their personality.

Style you can count on

I photograph with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, relying on natural light for nearly every session. My editing style is clean, warm, and honest — no heavy filters, no orange skin tones, no oversaturated skies. Colors look true to life. Skin looks like skin. The greens of Ogden’s parks look like the greens you actually see when you’re standing there. Every gallery includes black and white edits, because certain moments carry more weight when stripped down to contrast and tone. My goal is photography that feels timeless — images that will look as good on your wall in twenty years as they do today.

Seasonal rhythm across Ogden

Spring in Ogden brings blossoms along the Botanical Gardens, fresh green on the foothills, and that beautiful contrast of snow-capped peaks over warming valley floors. Summer evenings stretch past nine o’clock, perfect for families who need time to warm up and couples who want that long golden glow. Fall is Ogden at its finest — Ogden Canyon erupts in reds and oranges, the east bench turns golden, and the light takes on a richness that makes every session feel elevated. Winter brings quiet beauty — fresh snow on Mount Ogden, frost along the river, and the clean stillness of a cold morning that’s surprisingly flattering for portraits. Each season gives me something different to work with, and I look forward to all of them.

Quick answers for curious people

  • How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for most sessions; weddings, three to six months. Fall fills fastest.
  • What if it rains? We reschedule at no cost. Overcast skies, though, are some of my favorite conditions — soft, even light with no squinting.
  • How many final images will I receive? Depends on session length — typically 30 to 80 fully edited images for portrait sessions, more for weddings.
  • Do you offer albums or prints? Yes. Lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums are available through your gallery.
  • Can we bring our pet? Absolutely. Leash for safety, treats for bribery, and patience for everyone. Pets add personality and I love including them.
  • Do you travel outside Ogden? I photograph throughout Weber County and beyond — North Ogden, Roy, South Ogden, Logan, and anywhere the light is good.
