Looking for a Cedar Hills photographer? Hey — I’m Jen Kunz, and Cedar Hills is one of those communities that just feels good the second you drive into it. It’s tucked right against the mountains between Highland and Pleasant Grove, the neighborhoods are gorgeous, and the views from almost anywhere in town are the kind you don’t get tired of. I make the drive down from South Weber (about 50 minutes, straight shot on I-15) because this area is so worth it. Mountain views, family-friendly parks, and golden light that rolls down from the foothills in the evening — let’s make something beautiful.

Cedar Hills — mountain views and neighborhood charm

Cedar Hills is small, and I mean that as a compliment. It’s one of those places where families actually know their neighbors, kids play outside until dark, and the mountains aren’t a distant backdrop — they’re right there, practically in your yard. Mount Timpanogos dominates the skyline to the east, and on clear evenings the whole thing goes pink and orange while the light softens over the neighborhoods below. It’s genuinely beautiful.

What I love about shooting in Cedar Hills is the variety packed into a tight area. Harvey Park has open green space with mountain views. The trails and pathways weave through neighborhoods with mature trees and clean landscaping. Head five minutes north and you’re in Highland’s rolling hills. Five minutes south and you’re in Pleasant Grove with a totally different vibe. For a small city, there’s no shortage of backdrops, and I’ve scouted enough of them to know exactly where to take you depending on the look you want.

What I photograph in Cedar Hills

Families

Family sessions in Cedar Hills are some of my favorites. The parks here are beautiful without being overcrowded, the mountain backdrop does half the heavy lifting, and Cedar Hills families tend to have that comfortable, outdoorsy energy that photographs so naturally. We’ll pick a park, a trail, or even your own gorgeous yard (seriously, some of you have incredible backyards), and I’ll guide you through the session while letting your family be themselves. The posed group shot? We’ll get it. But the images you’ll actually hang on your wall are the ones where your kid is mid-belly-laugh or your partner just whispered something that cracked you up. That’s the real stuff.

Weddings & Elopements

As a Cedar Hills photographer, I know this area well enough to recommend spots you might not have considered. The foothills above Cedar Hills for an intimate elopement with Timp as your witness. Backyard ceremonies where the mountains literally tower over your guests. Reception venues in Highland, Pleasant Grove, or American Fork that are just minutes away. My style is documentary at heart — I capture what’s happening, not what’s staged. Real emotion, real light, real moments. Take a look at my wedding photography page to see what I mean.

Maternity

The mountain-framed views in Cedar Hills make for absolutely stunning maternity photos. There’s something about standing in a green field with Timpanogos catching the last light behind you — it’s majestic without feeling overdone. I photograph maternity between 28 and 34 weeks. Bring a flowing dress, and the evening breeze off the mountain does the styling for us. The result is images that feel organic and elegant and completely you.

Newborns

For newborn sessions, I come to your Cedar Hills home. No packing up the diaper bag, no stress, no driving with a tiny baby. I bring simple wraps, use your home’s natural light, and work on baby’s schedule. Feed, sleep, click. The details matter most right now — those miniature fingernails, the way they curl into a ball, the look on your face when you hold them. Parents and older siblings are always part of the session. This is your whole family, this new chapter.

Senior Pictures

Cedar Hills seniors, you’re in a great spot. Mountain trails for something dramatic and adventurous. Park settings for classic and clean. Nearby Pleasant Grove or American Fork for more urban texture. I customize every senior session around who you are — your interests, your personality, your style. Bring a few outfits, tell me what you’re into, and I’ll build a session that produces photos nobody else has. That’s the whole point.

Branding & Headshots

Cedar Hills has a lot of professionals who work from home, run their own businesses, or need updated headshots that don’t look like they were taken at a corporate convention in 2008. I shoot branding and headshot sessions with natural light and real environments — clean, modern, approachable. Whether it’s for your website, LinkedIn, or marketing materials, you’ll look like yourself. Just the best version.

Cedar Hills photo locations and when they shine

Location Look & Feel Best Time
Harvey Park Open grass, mountain views, family-friendly, clean Year-round, golden hour
Mesquite Park Playground, grass, neighborhood feel, good tree coverage Spring through fall, evening light
Cedar Hills trails / Golf Club perimeter Paved paths, mountain panoramas, manicured landscape Summer and fall, late afternoon
Highland foothills (5 min north) Rolling hills, wide-open sky, dramatic Timp views Spring wildflowers, fall golden light
Manila Creek area / Pleasant Grove (5 min south) Creek paths, mature trees, small-town texture Late spring through fall, morning or golden hour

I’m always open to new spots. If there’s a place in Cedar Hills that matters to your family — your backyard, a favorite walking path, the park where your kids play every afternoon — let’s use it. Personal locations make sessions more meaningful and the images more authentic.

Planning your Cedar Hills session

  • What to wear: Earthy, muted tones are perfect for the mountain backdrop — sage, dusty blue, cream, mauve, warm grey. Families should coordinate without matching identically. Skip neon, big patterns, and logos that date fast.
  • Timing: The mountains east of Cedar Hills block direct sun earlier than the valley floor, which actually creates beautiful diffused light in the evenings. I plan timing carefully based on season so we hit that sweet spot. Summer sessions usually start around 7 PM; fall and spring closer to 5:30.
  • Little ones: Snacks. Always snacks. A favorite small toy helps during transitions. And honestly? Let them be wild. I know how to work with kids who don’t want to sit still, and those action shots are usually the keepers.
  • Stay loose: I’ll give you direction, but it’s loose and easy. Walk together, swing your kid, be real. Connection over perfection. Always.

My photography style

I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, almost exclusively in natural light. My editing is clean and warm — real colors, real skin tones, nothing trendy that’ll look weird in five years. Every gallery includes black and white edits because some images just carry more emotion stripped down to light and shadow. I’m after timeless. The kind of photos that look just as good on your wall decades from now as they do today.

Cedar Hills through the seasons

Spring here is green coming back to life — the foothills fill in, the yards bloom, and Timpanogos still holds snow that catches light beautifully. Summer evenings are warm and long, the light sliding down the mountain face and turning everything golden before it dips below the ridge. Fall is spectacular. The scrub oak on the foothills goes red and orange, the yards turn amber, and the air crisps up in that perfect way that makes everyone look great in photos. Winter is quieter — fresh snow on Timp, frosted rooftops, bare branches — but there’s a stillness to it that can be really striking for the right session.

Frequently asked questions

  • How early should I book? Two to four weeks for regular sessions. Weddings — three to six months is the sweet spot, earlier for popular dates.
  • What if it rains? We reschedule, no extra charge. Overcast days, though? Love them. The light is soft and even and everyone looks amazing.
  • How many photos will I receive? Typically 30 to 80 fully edited images, depending on session type and duration.
  • Do you work in other nearby cities too? All the time. I photograph in Vineyard, Mapleton, Payson, and throughout Utah County.
  • Pets welcome? Always. Leash for safety, treats for cooperation. They add so much personality to sessions.
  • Do you offer prints and albums? Yes — lab-quality prints, canvases, and heirloom albums available through your online gallery after delivery.
