Looking for a West Jordan photographer? I’m Jen Kunz, and I photograph families, seniors, maternity sessions, newborns, weddings, and branding work throughout West Jordan and the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. West Jordan is one of Utah’s largest and most diverse cities, packed with parks, open space, and a community feel that comes through in every session I shoot here. I drive about 40 minutes down from Ogden because the families in West Jordan are great to work with and the locations — especially those wide-open western valley sunsets — are worth every mile.
What makes West Jordan stand out for photography
West Jordan stretches across the western Salt Lake Valley with the Oquirrh Mountains defining its western skyline and the Jordan River running along its eastern edge. It’s a city of neighborhoods — established areas with mature trees mixed with newer developments that open up to wide views of the surrounding mountains. What sets West Jordan apart photographically is the light. The western valley catches sunsets that the east bench doesn’t — unobstructed views of the sky painting itself across the Oquirrh ridgeline, golden light flooding the parks and fields with warmth that lasts longer than you’d expect.
The city has invested in its parks and trails in a serious way. Ron Wood Park, Veterans Memorial Park, the Jordan River Parkway — these are well-maintained, photogenic spaces that give me variety within a short drive. And the neighborhoods here have a lived-in warmth that makes for authentic, relatable imagery. West Jordan isn’t trying to be anything it’s not, and that honesty translates into photographs that feel genuine and grounded.
I also frequently work in nearby South Jordan, Sandy, and Salt Lake City — all within easy reach of West Jordan.
What I photograph in West Jordan
Families
Family sessions in West Jordan are relaxed, fun, and full of real moments. The parks here are spacious enough for kids to run and explore while I capture the genuine dynamics of your family — the way your toddler reaches for you, the sibling squabble that turns into a hug, the quiet smile between partners when they think nobody’s watching. Ron Wood Park, the Jordan River corridor, and the open fields along the western edge of the city all make excellent settings. We’ll get the clean group portrait, but the standout images will be the candid ones that actually feel like your family on a regular day — just with incredible light.
Weddings & Elopements
As a West Jordan wedding photographer, I appreciate the practicality and beauty this city offers. West Jordan has reception venues and event spaces that serve the community well, and the surrounding area — from the Jordan River to the mountain foothills — provides portrait locations that elevate any wedding gallery. I bring a calm, documentary style to every wedding. No manufactured moments, no pulling you away from your guests for an hour. I capture what’s real: the ceremony, the tears, the dancing, the stolen glances, the details you chose with care. Your day, preserved honestly.
Maternity
West Jordan’s open spaces and golden evening light create beautiful maternity settings. I love working in the fields along the western edge of the city where the grass catches the sunset and the mountains frame the horizon, or along the Jordan River Parkway where the cottonwood trees filter soft, dappled light. Sessions are best between 28 and 34 weeks, and I’ll guide you through every pose so you feel confident and gorgeous. Bring a flowing dress that moves with the breeze — the open landscape does the rest, creating maternity images that feel both intimate and expansive.
Newborns
For newborn sessions in West Jordan, I come to your home. New babies don’t need car rides and unfamiliar environments — they need warmth, food, and sleep, and your home provides all of that. I bring simple wraps and minimal props, work with whatever natural light your windows offer, and move entirely at your baby’s pace. The images focus on the tiny, fleeting details: curled fingers, the soft fuzz of hair, the way a newborn melts into your shoulder. Parents and siblings are always included because this moment — your family at its newest — is what we’re really capturing.
Senior Pictures
West Jordan seniors have more options than they might realize. The Oquirrh foothills for dramatic landscape shots, the Jordan River trail for natural waterside settings, Ron Wood Park for a versatile family park atmosphere, or we venture into nearby canyons for mountain drama. Every senior session I shoot is built around the person in front of the camera — your sport, your hobby, your style. Two or three outfits, two or three locations, and a gallery that feels like you. Not someone else’s template. Not a generic backdrop. Yours.
Real Estate & Branding
West Jordan’s steady growth means more businesses, more professionals, and more demand for quality visual content. Whether you’re a real estate agent listing homes in West Jordan’s growing neighborhoods, a small business owner who needs branding imagery, or a professional updating your headshots, I create photographs that are polished, approachable, and credible. Clean composition, honest lighting, and a focus on making you — and your work — look exactly as good as they actually are.
West Jordan photo locations and when they shine
West Jordan and the surrounding area offer a solid range of settings:
| Location | Look & Feel | Best Time |
|---|---|---|
| Ron Wood Park | Spacious lawns, mature trees, pond, walking paths, versatile family park | Spring through fall, golden hour |
| Veterans Memorial Park | Open fields, memorial features, mountain views, wide sky | Year-round, sunset |
| Jordan River Parkway (West Jordan segment) | Riparian corridor, cottonwood canopy, river access, natural and serene | Late spring through fall, morning or golden hour |
| West Jordan City Park | Central park, playground, pavilions, community gathering space | Year-round, late afternoon |
| Oquirrh foothills (western edge) | Sagebrush hillsides, panoramic valley views, open sky, dramatic horizon | Spring and fall, sunset |
| Gardner Village area | Historic buildings, gardens, cottage feel, charming small-town aesthetic | Year-round, overcast or golden hour |
This list covers my favorites, but I’m always game to explore new spots. If there’s somewhere in West Jordan that holds meaning for you — a neighborhood park, a backyard with a view, the trail you walk every evening — let’s use it. The most memorable photographs come from places that actually matter to the people in them.
Planning your West Jordan session
- What to wear: Soft, muted tones work best — dusty blue, sage, cream, terra cotta, warm grey. Avoid bright neon, oversized logos, and busy patterns. For families, coordinate your palette without matching exactly. Layers and texture add visual depth.
- Sunset advantage: West Jordan’s position in the valley means you get unobstructed western sunsets that the east bench cities miss. I schedule sessions to take full advantage — the golden hour here is wide, warm, and absolutely worth planning around.
- Kids being kids: Snacks are essential. A small comfort item helps during transitions. And the golden rule: let them be wild. Running, laughing, being goofy — that’s where the best photographs happen. I work with kids all the time and I know how to find the magic in the chaos.
- Real movement: Walk toward me, pick up your child, dance with your partner. I’ll guide you, but the best images come from real interaction. Stiff posing doesn’t live on walls — genuine moments do.
My style and editing approach
I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, relying on natural light for nearly all of my work. My editing style is clean, warm, and honest — real colors, natural skin tones, light that looks like the light that was actually there. No heavy filters, no orange skin, no oversaturated skies that scream “this was edited.” Every gallery includes black and white edits because some moments are more powerful stripped down to contrast and emotion. My goal is timeless work — images that look as good on your wall in 2046 as they do when I deliver them.
West Jordan through the seasons
Spring in West Jordan brings green parks, blossoming trees, and the dramatic contrast of snow-capped Oquirrh peaks against fresh valley growth. Summer stretches the light past 9 PM and turns the open fields golden — perfect for sessions that feel relaxed and spacious. Fall is gorgeous here: the cottonwoods along the Jordan River blaze yellow, the air sharpens, and the entire western skyline glows amber and rose at sunset. Winter is stark and beautiful — frosted parks, clean mountain lines, and the low-angle light of short days that creates dramatic, moody conditions. Every season in West Jordan offers something worth photographing, and I look forward to each transition.
Frequently asked questions
- How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for portrait sessions; three to six months for weddings. Fall sessions fill up the fastest, so book early for September and October.
- What if the weather doesn’t cooperate? We reschedule at no cost. Overcast days are actually ideal for portraits — the soft, even light is incredibly flattering.
- How many images will I get? Typically 30 to 80 fully edited images depending on session length, delivered through a private online gallery.
- Is there a travel fee from Ogden? No. West Jordan falls within my regular service area. The drive down I-15 is about 40 minutes and I cover the Salt Lake Valley without any travel surcharge.
- Do you offer prints? Yes — lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums are available through your gallery. I handle the printing to ensure colors are accurate and beautiful.
- Can we bring our dog? Absolutely. Leash for safety, treats for cooperation, and the understanding that it might be hilarious. Dogs are family and they deserve to be in the photos.
