Looking for a Draper photographer? I’m Jen Kunz, and I photograph families, seniors, maternity sessions, newborns, weddings, and branding work throughout Draper and the south valley. Draper is one of those places that makes my job feel unfair — in the best possible way. Nestled at the southern tip of the Salt Lake Valley with the Point of the Mountain on one side and the Wasatch peaks on the other, this city delivers dramatic, sweeping backdrops that elevate every session. I make the 40-minute drive from Ogden down I-15 because Draper consistently gives me some of the most beautiful light and landscapes I work with along the entire Wasatch Front.
Why Draper stands out for photography
Draper occupies a unique position in the valley — it’s where the urban corridor gives way to open space, where neighborhoods back up against trails that climb into the mountains, and where the Point of the Mountain creates expansive views that stretch across the entire south valley. The combination of developed parks, wild trails, and mountain proximity gives me a range of settings that’s hard to match.
The city has grown rapidly, but it’s held onto a lot of its natural beauty. Corner Canyon alone offers miles of trails through oak groves, meadows, and ridgelines with panoramic views. Down in the valley, parks like Steep Mountain and Draper City Park provide polished, accessible settings. And the neighborhoods here — especially along the east bench — have mature trees, wide streets, and mountain views from practically every yard. It’s a city built into the landscape rather than on top of it, and that shows up in every photograph.
I also regularly photograph in nearby Sandy, South Jordan, and Salt Lake City — all easy to reach from Draper.
What I photograph in Draper
Families
Family sessions in Draper have a natural, relaxed quality that comes from the landscape itself. The trails and open spaces here encourage movement — kids can explore, parents can breathe, and I can capture the genuine dynamics that make your family yours. Whether we’re in the oak groves of Corner Canyon, along the paths at Draper City Park, or on the hillside above the valley with views stretching to the Oquirrhs, the settings here create images with depth and atmosphere. I focus on real moments over stiff poses, and Draper families tend to love that approach.
Weddings & Elopements
As a Draper wedding photographer, I’m drawn to the versatility this area provides. Draper sits between the Cottonwood Canyons and the Point of the Mountain, giving couples options that range from alpine canyon ceremonies to valley overlook receptions. Elopements along the Corner Canyon trails offer intimacy and jaw-dropping views. Larger celebrations at south valley venues benefit from the mountain backdrop that’s visible from nearly everywhere in the area. My style is documentary — I stay calm, move quietly, and focus on capturing the real emotion of your day so you can be present in every moment.
Maternity
Draper’s combination of open hillsides and mountain views creates maternity settings that feel expansive and beautiful. I love working along the ridgelines of Corner Canyon or in the meadows near the base of the trails, where the light stretches golden across the grass and the peaks fill the background. Sessions are best between 28 and 34 weeks. Bring a flowing dress that catches the breeze, and I’ll guide you through every pose. The landscape does the heavy lifting — all you need to do is show up and let the moment be about you and this incredible chapter.
Newborns
For newborn sessions in Draper, I come directly to your home. You’ve got enough going on — I’m not going to ask you to pack up a days-old baby and drive somewhere. I bring simple wraps and minimal props, use your home’s natural window light, and let your baby set the pace entirely. We focus on the tiny, fleeting details: the curl of small toes, the weight of a sleeping baby on your chest, the way siblings lean in close for a first real look. This is your family’s story at its newest chapter, and I want to capture it exactly as it is.
Senior Pictures
Draper seniors have incredible options right in their own backyard. Corner Canyon trails for adventurous, outdoorsy vibes. The Point of the Mountain area for wide-open views and dramatic sky. Draper Historic Park for a quaint, small-town feel. Or we head into the Cottonwood Canyons for alpine drama. I tailor every senior session to who you are — your sport, your art, your personality. Two or three outfit changes, two or three locations, and a gallery that’s unmistakably you. Not cookie-cutter. Not generic. Yours.
Real Estate & Branding
Draper is a hub for tech companies, startups, and professionals along the Silicon Slopes corridor. Sharp visual content — headshots, lifestyle branding images, property photography — is essential for standing out in this competitive market. I work with entrepreneurs, real estate agents, and business owners who need imagery that’s polished but human. Whether you’re listing a home with mountain views, building a personal brand, or updating your team’s visual presence, I’ll create photographs that feel professional without being stiff.
Draper photo locations and when they shine
Draper and the surrounding area give me a fantastic range of backdrops:
| Location | Look & Feel | Best Time |
|---|---|---|
| Corner Canyon trails | Oak groves, meadows, ridgeline views, natural and adventurous | Late spring through fall, golden hour |
| Draper City Park | Manicured lawns, playground area, mature trees, accessible family setting | Year-round, late afternoon |
| Andy Ballard Equestrian Arena area | Open fields, rustic fencing, mountain backdrop, western character | Summer and fall, sunset |
| Point of the Mountain (south Draper) | Wide valley views, open sky, paragliders overhead, expansive feel | Year-round, golden hour |
| Steep Mountain Park | Foothills setting, trail access, natural vegetation, mountain proximity | Spring and fall, morning or evening |
| Draper Historic Park | Small-town charm, historic structures, quiet and intimate | Year-round, overcast or golden hour |
This list is just the starting point. Draper has hidden corners, neighborhood trails, and mountain viewpoints that most people drive past without a second glance. If you have a spot that means something to you — the trail where you hike every weekend, the park where your kids learned to ride bikes — let’s shoot there. Personal places make personal photographs.
Planning your Draper session
- What to wear: Muted, earthy tones work beautifully — sage, dusty blue, cream, terra cotta, warm grey. Avoid neon, large logos, and distracting patterns. For families, coordinate colors and style without matching identically. Layers and texture add depth to the images.
- Timing the light: Draper’s east bench location means the mountains cast shadows earlier than the west side of the valley. I factor that into scheduling so we catch the best light at the best angle. Trust the timing I suggest — I know how the light moves through this area.
- With kids: Snacks are non-negotiable. A comfort item for transitions helps. And please — let them be kids. The running, the exploring, the silliness — that’s where the best images live. I’m experienced with little ones who’d rather climb rocks than hold still, and I love it.
- Keep it natural: Walk, spin, laugh, lift your kids onto your shoulders. I’ll give you direction, but loosely — genuine movement always photographs better than rigid posing.
My approach and editing style
I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, working with natural light whenever possible. My editing is clean, warm, and true to life — no heavy filters, no artificial color grading, no skin tones that look like they belong in a different decade. Colors are real. Light is honest. Every gallery includes black and white edits because some moments are strongest when stripped to pure contrast and emotion. I’m building galleries that feel timeless — images you’ll be proud to display for decades, not just for this year’s holiday card.
Draper through the seasons
Spring in Draper is green and alive — the oak groves in Corner Canyon leaf out, the valley floor bursts with blossoms, and the mountains still hold their snow cap for dramatic contrast. Summer brings long, golden evenings perfect for sessions that feel unhurried, with light that lasts well past 8 PM in the foothills. Fall is Draper at its peak: the oaks in Corner Canyon turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and amber, and the valley takes on a warmth that makes every image glow. Winter is quiet and striking — Lone Peak draped in fresh powder, frosted trails, and the crisp clarity of cold-weather light. Every season here offers something I look forward to capturing.
Frequently asked questions
- How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for portrait sessions; three to six months for weddings. October in Draper fills fast because of the Corner Canyon fall color.
- What if it rains? We reschedule at no charge. Overcast conditions, though, are beautiful — soft, diffused light that’s incredibly flattering.
- How many images will I receive? Typically 30 to 80 fully edited images depending on session length, delivered through a private online gallery.
- Do you charge travel fees from Ogden? No. Draper is part of my regular service area. I drive down I-15 for sessions throughout the south valley with no travel surcharge.
- Do you offer prints and albums? Yes — lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums available through your gallery. I manage the printing to ensure color accuracy.
- Can our dog come? Absolutely. Leash for safety, treats for motivation, and a willingness to roll with whatever happens. Dogs belong in family photos.
