If you’ve been searching for an Orem photographer, hi — I’m Jen. I’m a South Weber-based photographer who works all over Utah County, and Orem is one of those cities I genuinely look forward to shooting in. It’s got this great mix of mountain-close neighborhoods, established parks, and the Timpanogos Temple just sitting there being impossibly photogenic. I photograph families, weddings, engagements, maternity sessions, newborns, seniors, and branding work throughout Orem and the surrounding area. Let me tell you why this city keeps pulling me back.

Orem — more photogenic than it gets credit for

People sometimes overlook Orem. I get it — Provo’s right next door with the canyon and the university, and everyone talks about that. But Orem has its own thing going on, and as someone who’s photographed here across all four seasons, I think it’s seriously underrated.

The Timpanogos Temple is obviously the crown jewel. That building against Mt. Timpanogos at sunset? I mean, come on. But beyond that, you’ve got SCERA Park with its huge trees and open fields, the trails heading up toward Timpanogos from the east side, and neighborhoods that are so well-kept they look like they were designed for family portraits. The light in Orem is fantastic because you’re right at the base of the mountains — you get that warm bounce-back during golden hour that makes skin glow.

I also photograph in Provo, Pleasant Grove, and American Fork — so if you’re in this part of the valley, I know it well.

Family photography in Orem

Orem families are my kind of people. Active, outdoorsy, usually wrangling at least two kids under six, and just trying to get ONE good photo for the Christmas card. (I promise we’ll get way more than one.) My family photography approach is relaxed and real. I don’t do stiff lineups. I don’t force smiles. I set up situations where your family interacts naturally, and I capture what happens.

SCERA Park is probably my most-used Orem location for families. Those massive trees create the most beautiful dappled light in the late afternoon, and there’s enough space for kids to run without you worrying about traffic. For something with more elevation (literally), the Mt. Timpanogos trailhead areas on the east bench give you mountain drama without a serious hike. And if you want that iconic temple backdrop, the Timpanogos Temple grounds are manicured and gorgeous year-round.

The tickle attacks, the piggyback rides, the toddler meltdown that turns into the sweetest hug two seconds later — that’s the good stuff. That’s what I’m here for.

Weddings — Orem has range

As an Orem wedding photographer, I’ve worked everything from large receptions at venues near the University Mall area to intimate ceremonies on the temple grounds. Orem’s central location in Utah County means your guests can get there easily from anywhere in the valley, and the backdrop options for portraits are genuinely great.

The Timpanogos Temple is the obvious first-day-photo spot, and for good reason — it’s one of the most beautiful temples in Utah. But I also love pulling couples to quieter spots around Orem for golden hour portraits. A backlit field on the east bench. The walking paths near Lakeside Sports Park with the lake catching late light. Even the older neighborhoods near State Street have this character that works for couples who want something less polished and more them.

My wedding photography style is documentary with intention. I’m not staging moments — I’m catching them. And I’m fast enough that you won’t miss dinner for photos.

Maternity sessions against Timpanogos

There is something about photographing a maternity session with Mt. Timpanogos filling up the background. The mountain is massive and ancient and permanent, and there you are, growing a whole human. The contrast is beautiful. Poetic, even. (I don’t usually get this sappy, but Orem maternity sessions do it to me.)

I schedule maternity sessions between 28 and 34 weeks — that sweet spot where the bump is beautifully round but you’re not yet in the “please just get this baby out” phase. We’ll find a spot with great light, I’ll pose you in ways that feel natural and flattering, and you’ll walk away feeling like you just did something special. Because you did. Bring a flowy dress and leave the rest to me.

Newborns — your home, your baby’s schedule

For Orem newborn sessions, I come to you. Simple as that. You’ve got a brand-new baby, you’re running on approximately zero sleep, and the house is a disaster (every new parent’s house is a disaster — no judgment, I’ve been there four times). I bring simple wraps, work with your window light, and we go at whatever pace your baby sets.

Tiny fingers. Squishy cheeks. The way a newborn curls up like they’re still in the womb. Those details fade so fast, and these photos keep them forever. I include parents and siblings in every newborn session because this moment belongs to your whole family. Best timing: within the first 14 days.

Senior portraits with personality

Orem seniors — you’ve got options. The temple grounds for something classic. SCERA Park for something natural and earthy. The trails up toward Timp for mountain vibes. Downtown Provo is just five minutes south if you want urban texture. I build every senior portrait session around your personality, not a template.

Bring two or three outfits that feel like YOU. If you play a sport, bring the gear. If you’re an artist, bring your medium. If you just want to look amazing in golden light, we can absolutely do that too. These photos should make you feel like the main character. Because right now, you kind of are.

Branding and headshots

Orem’s business community has grown so much — especially along the tech corridor and around the University Mall area. If you’re a small business owner, freelancer, or professional who needs photos that aren’t a boring headshot on a grey backdrop, I can help. I shoot branding sessions that show you in your element: your workspace, your process, your personality. The kind of images that make people trust you before they’ve even met you.

Orem locations and when to shoot

Location Look & Feel Best Time
SCERA Park Towering trees, dappled light, wide grassy areas, playground nearby Spring through fall, late afternoon / golden hour
Timpanogos Temple grounds Manicured gardens, iconic architecture, mountain backdrop Year-round, sunset for best mountain glow
Mt. Timpanogos trailhead areas (east bench) Wildflowers, rocky terrain, mountain close-ups, alpine feel Late spring through early fall, morning or evening
Lakeside Sports Park Lake reflections, open fields, walking paths, sunset views Summer and fall, sunset
Orem neighborhoods (east side) Tree-lined streets, mature gardens, residential charm Spring blossoms, fall color, golden hour

There’s more — there’s always more. If you have a spot in Orem that matters to you, I want to hear about it. Your backyard, your favorite park, the place where you walk every evening. Personal locations make personal photos.

Planning your session

  • Colors that work: Muted, earthy tones — sage, dusty rose, cream, warm grey, soft blue. Avoid neon and big graphics. Families: coordinate but don’t match.
  • Light timing: Golden hour in Orem is exceptional because Timpanogos catches and reflects the last light. I’ll handle the scheduling to hit peak glow.
  • For the kids: Snacks. Seriously, snacks. And patience. I know how to work with kids who don’t want to sit still, and honestly, those are the best photos anyway.
  • Keep it natural: Walk together, hold hands, make each other laugh. The less you think about posing, the better the photos turn out. I’ll steer you — gently.

My style — in case you’re wondering

Nikon Z6III. Natural light. Clean, warm editing that looks real — no orange skin, no crushed shadows, no trendy filters that’ll age poorly. Every gallery includes black and white edits because some moments just need that. I want your photos to be timeless. Twenty years from now, they should still feel right.

Questions I hear a lot

  • How far ahead should I book? Two to four weeks for regular sessions. Weddings and fall dates, three to six months — October fills up fast.
  • Do you charge extra to come to Orem? Nope. I’m in Utah County regularly and Orem sessions have no travel fee.
  • What if it rains? We reschedule, no charge. (But cloudy skies? Those are secretly the best for photos.)
  • How many edited photos will I get? Typically 30 to 80, depending on session type and length.
  • Can we bring our dog? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Leash on, treats ready, and embrace the beautiful chaos.
  • What about prints? I offer professional lab-quality prints, canvases, and heirloom albums. The difference between a pro print and a drugstore print is worth seeing.

Ready? Let’s do this.
