Utah senior portrait photographer Jen Kunz

Utah Senior Portrait Photographer

Graduating this year and looking for a Utah senior portrait photographer who won’t make you stand in front of a fake backdrop and say cheese? Good — that’s not how I work.

I’m Jen, a portrait photographer based in South Weber, Utah, and I specialize in senior sessions that actually look like you.

Not the awkward, overly posed school photos your mom has in a drawer somewhere — real portraits that capture your personality, your style, and this moment in your life that you’ll never get back.

Whether you’re into mountain backdrops, urban grit, golden-hour fields, or all of the above, I’ll help you look incredible and feel confident doing it. Let’s plan your session.

Why senior portraits matter

Senior year goes fast. Like, terrifyingly fast. One minute you’re walking into school on the first day and the next you’re in a cap and gown wondering where the time went.

Between college applications, prom, and trying to soak in every last moment with your friends, it’s a blur.

Senior portraits are one of the few things from this season that you’ll actually keep forever — not the homework, not the group chats, not the TikTok trends that already feel outdated. The photos.

And I’m not talking about the generic school portrait with the laser background and the forced smile. I’m talking about images that show who you are right now — your confidence, your edge, your quirks, your personal style.

The version of you that’s about to step into the next chapter. Your future self will look back at these and remember exactly who they were at seventeen or eighteen — and that matters more than most people realize until years later.

I work with seniors all across Northern Utah, and every single one of them walks into their session a little nervous and walks out saying, “That was actually fun.” Because it should be fun.

This is your moment — maybe the first time you’ve ever had a professional photo shoot that’s all about you. You should feel amazing, look amazing, and walk away with images that make you say, “Wow, that’s really me.”

Your parents are going to cry when they see them. Fair warning. They’ll order prints for every relative you have. You’ll pretend to be embarrassed. But secretly? You’ll love it.

What to expect at your senior session

Your senior session is all about you — your style, your vibe, your locations, your story. Here’s what the experience looks like from our first conversation to the final gallery.

Before the session

We’ll start with a planning conversation where I get to know you a bit — what you’re into, what you’re envisioning, and what kind of photos you want to walk away with.

I’ll help you pick locations that match your personal style and send you a prep guide covering outfit choices, hair and makeup tips, and what to bring along.

Most seniors bring 2 to 3 outfits for variety, and I’ll help you coordinate looks that photograph well and feel authentic to who you are.

This is also when we’ll plan the timeline — when to meet, how long we’ll be out, and where we’ll go. I handle all the logistics so you can just show up and have fun.

During the session

Senior sessions typically last about 60 to 90 minutes, which gives us time for multiple outfits, multiple locations if we’re nearby, and a mix of posed and candid shots. I guide you through everything — where to stand, how to move, where to look, what to do with your hands (because everyone asks about the hands) — so you never feel awkward or unsure.

If you’ve never done a photo shoot before, don’t worry at all. Most seniors haven’t. I’ll direct you through every single moment and make it feel natural. We’ll chat, laugh, and before you know it, you’ll forget the camera is there.

That’s when the best shots happen.

Bring your letterman jacket, your instrument, your sport gear, your car, your jersey, your dance shoes — anything that represents who you are right now. Props that tell your story make the photos uniquely yours, and they’re some of my favorite images to capture.

After the session

Your fully edited gallery is delivered within 2 to 3 weeks. Every image is individually color-corrected and edited — no one-click filters, no batch presets, no shortcuts. I treat every photo with care because that’s what your senior year deserves.

You’ll get a private online gallery where you can download everything, share with family and friends, and order prints, canvases, grad announcements, or whatever else you need.

All edited images from your session are included — no picking and choosing.

Senior season books up fast — especially spring and early fall when the light is perfect. Get in touch to secure your spot before your preferred date is taken.

Where we shoot

Your senior photos should look like your life — not someone else’s Pinterest board. That’s why I offer sessions at locations all over Northern Utah (and beyond) based on the vibe you’re going for. Mountain adventurer? Urban creative?

Classic and clean? Let’s find the backdrop that fits.

Some of my favorite spots for senior portraits:

  • Historic 25th Street, Ogden — Brick walls, murals, doorways, string lights, and urban character. Perfect for seniors who want an edgier, downtown feel with lots of variety in a small area.
  • Ogden River Parkway — Tree-lined trails with soft, filtered light. Beautiful any time of year and especially gorgeous when the leaves are changing.
  • North Ogden Divide — Mountain meadows and wildflowers with panoramic views of the valley. Incredible in summer and early fall.
  • Big Cottonwood Canyon — Rocky creek beds, pine forests, and dreamy light filtering through the canopy. A nature-lover’s dream location.
  • The Bonneville Salt Flats — Clean, dramatic, and completely unique. A statement location for seniors who want something no one else has.
  • Snowbasin or Powder Mountain area — Mountain backdrops that are stunning in every season. Wide-open meadows and dramatic peaks.
  • Your school campus or hometown — Some seniors love incorporating meaningful places — the football field, their family’s ranch, the barn they grew up in, or their favorite local spot. If it matters to you, it belongs in your photos.

We can also combine locations if they’re close together. Two looks, two backdrops, one session — maximum variety. Check out my gallery for examples and my location pages for more ideas.

Investment

Senior portrait sessions include all fully edited images delivered in a private online gallery.

There are no per-photo charges, no packages where you have to pick only your favorites and leave the rest behind — you get every single edited image from your session. Because if I edited it, that means it’s good, and you should have it.

For current senior portrait pricing, reach out to me directly or visit my pricing page. I’ll put together a quote based on what you’re looking for — single location or multiple, outfit changes, and any add-ons that make your session uniquely yours.

Every session is tailored to the individual, because your senior year isn’t cookie-cutter and your photos shouldn’t be either. Whether you want something simple and clean or a full-on multi-location adventure session, I’ll make it happen.

Frequently asked questions

  • When should I schedule my senior session? Most seniors book their session during the summer before or fall of their senior year. Spring and early summer are also popular — wildflowers and long golden evenings make for beautiful photos. I recommend booking at least a month or two in advance to get your preferred date and time slot.
  • How many outfits should I bring? I recommend 2 to 3 outfits for variety. Mix it up — one dressy, one casual, and one that represents something you love (your sport, your instrument, your hobby, your aesthetic). I’ll help you coordinate during our planning conversation so everything photographs well together.
  • Can I bring props or pets? Absolutely. Letterman jackets, musical instruments, sports gear, your truck, your dog, your horse, your skateboard — anything that’s part of your story is welcome. Some of my favorite senior images include personal props that make the photos one-of-a-kind.
  • I’m awkward in front of the camera. Is that okay? More than okay — it’s the norm. Almost every senior I photograph says this during our planning conversation, and almost every one of them ends up having a blast during the actual session. I guide you through every single pose, prompt, and movement so you never feel lost or unsure. By the end, you’ll be a natural.
  • Can my friends do a joint session? Yes! Best friend sessions are some of the most fun shoots I do. We can do individual portraits for each of you and group shots together in the same session. It’s a great way to celebrate your friendship and your senior year at the same time. Just let me know when you book so we can plan the timing accordingly.
  • How many photos will I get? Most senior sessions include 40 to 80+ fully edited images depending on session length, outfit changes, and number of locations. Every image is individually edited with care — no batch processing.
