Looking for a South Jordan photographer? I’m Jen Kunz, and I photograph families, seniors, maternity sessions, newborns, weddings, and branding work throughout South Jordan and the southwest Salt Lake Valley. South Jordan is a community that’s grown into one of the most family-friendly cities along the Wasatch Front — beautiful parks, thriving neighborhoods, and a backdrop of mountains on all sides. I make the 40-minute drive from my home base in Ogden because the families here are wonderful to work with and the locations deliver every single time.

What makes South Jordan a great place to photograph

South Jordan sits in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, bordered by the Jordan River to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains rising to the west. It’s a city that’s invested heavily in parks and open space, which means I have access to a wide variety of polished, photogenic settings without needing to drive into the mountains. The Oquirrh Mountain Temple, Riverfront Park along the Jordan River, and Daybreak’s extensive trail system are just a few of the locations that make this city a reliable choice for sessions.

What I appreciate most about shooting in South Jordan is the open sky. The western valley doesn’t have the tight canyon walls that compress the light — instead, sunsets here are wide and dramatic, painting the sky behind the Oquirrh ridgeline. Combined with the city’s well-maintained parks and the natural beauty along the river corridor, South Jordan gives me settings that range from manicured and elegant to natural and wild, often within the same session.

I also regularly photograph in nearby West Jordan, Draper, and Sandy — all just a short drive from South Jordan.

What I photograph in South Jordan

Families

Family photography in South Jordan is something I genuinely enjoy. The parks here are spacious and well-kept, the neighborhoods have character, and the families are active and fun. I typically work at locations like Riverfront Park, SoDa Row in Daybreak, or the open spaces near Firmont Park — places where kids can move freely and parents can relax into the session. I capture the real stuff: the sibling wrestle, the spontaneous piggyback ride, the quiet moment when mom and dad lean into each other while the kids are distracted. We’ll get the classic family portrait, but the images you’ll love most will be the ones that actually feel like your family.

Weddings & Elopements

As a South Jordan wedding photographer, I love how this area balances convenience with beauty. The Oquirrh Mountain Temple provides a stunning backdrop for formals, Daybreak’s event spaces offer a modern community feel, and the Jordan River corridor creates intimate, natural settings for smaller ceremonies. I approach weddings with calm focus — staying present, reading the moments, and capturing the real emotion without staging it. Your day moves fast, and my job is to preserve the details, the laughter, the tears, and the joy so you can relive them for years.

Maternity

South Jordan’s wide-open park spaces and golden evening light create beautiful conditions for maternity sessions. I love using the fields along the Jordan River Parkway or the open lawns at Riverfront Park where the light stretches long and warm across the grass. Sessions work best between 28 and 34 weeks, and I’ll walk you through posing so you feel confident and beautiful. A flowing dress that catches the breeze is perfect here — the open space and big sky make for maternity images that feel expansive and joyful.

Newborns

For newborn sessions in South Jordan, I come to your home. You’ve got a brand-new baby and a household adjusting to a new rhythm — the last thing you need is to load everyone into the car. I bring simple wraps and minimal props, work with your home’s natural light, and let your baby dictate the pace entirely. The focus is on details that change fast: tiny fingers, soft expressions, the way they settle into your arms. Parents and siblings are always part of it — this isn’t just a baby portrait, it’s a family portrait at a moment you’ll never get back.

Senior Pictures

South Jordan seniors have great options for creating a gallery that feels personal and varied. Daybreak’s town center for a modern, urban vibe. The Jordan River Parkway for natural, waterside settings. The open fields near the Oquirrh foothills for dramatic sunset shots. Or we mix it up — two or three locations, two or three outfits, and a session built entirely around who you are. Your sport, your art, your personality. I want your senior photos to reflect the actual person you are right now, not a generic template that could be anyone.

Real Estate & Branding

South Jordan and the Daybreak community have brought significant business growth to the southwest valley. Whether you’re a real estate agent listing homes in Daybreak, a small business owner building your brand, or a professional needing polished headshots, I create imagery that’s clean, approachable, and credible. No stiff corporate look — just professional photography that shows who you are and what you do in the best possible light. Literally.

South Jordan photo locations and when they shine

South Jordan and the surrounding area offer a great variety of settings:

Location Look & Feel Best Time
Riverfront Park Wide lawns, mature trees, Jordan River access, open and spacious Spring through fall, golden hour
SoDa Row (Daybreak) Modern town center, shops, walkways, urban-community feel Year-round, overcast or late afternoon
Oquirrh Lake (Daybreak) Lakefront, reflections, bridges, open sky and mountain views Spring through fall, sunset
Firmont Park Open fields, playground area, casual family park setting Summer and fall, evening light
Jordan River Parkway trail Riparian corridor, cottonwood trees, winding path, natural and secluded Late spring through fall, morning or golden hour
Oquirrh Mountain Temple grounds Manicured gardens, architectural backdrop, formal and elegant Year-round, golden hour

These are my go-to spots, but I’m always open to new locations. If there’s a place in South Jordan that’s meaningful to you — where you walk the dog every morning, where you had your first date, where your kids learned to ride bikes — I’d love to incorporate it. The best photographs come from places that actually mean something to the people in them.

Planning your South Jordan session

  • What to wear: Soft, muted tones photograph beautifully against South Jordan’s green parks and golden fields — think dusty blue, sage, cream, terra cotta, or warm grey. Skip the neon, big logos, and overly busy prints. Families should coordinate colors without matching identically.
  • Timing the light: South Jordan sunsets are spectacular because the Oquirrh Mountains create a dramatic western skyline. I schedule sessions to catch the golden hour at its peak — the timing shifts with the seasons, and I account for that so we get the best possible light.
  • Kids in the mix: Bring snacks and something small for transitions. Beyond that, let them be kids. Running through the grass, throwing rocks in the lake, chasing each other around a tree — those moments make the best photographs, and I know exactly how to work with the beautiful chaos of young families.
  • Stay loose: Walk together, swing your partner, lift your kids. Real movement creates real photographs. I’ll give direction, but always loosely — because connection trumps perfection every time.

My style and what you’ll get

I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses, relying on natural light for the vast majority of my work. My editing is clean, warm, and honest — true colors, real skin tones, light that looks like the light that was actually there. No heavy filters, no trendy color grading that’ll look dated in five years. Every gallery includes black and white edits because certain images carry more emotional weight in monochrome. I’m creating work that’s meant to last — photographs that will feel as right on your wall in twenty years as they do today.

South Jordan through the seasons

Spring in South Jordan is lush and fresh — the parks green up, the trees along the Jordan River fill out, and the Oquirrh peaks still hold their snowcap for dramatic contrast. Summer stretches the light past 9 PM and opens up the lakefront and trail system for sessions that feel spacious and unhurried. Fall transforms the river corridor into a tunnel of gold — cottonwoods and maples blazing with color, and the air taking on that crisp, clean quality that sharpens everything in the frame. Winter is quieter but still beautiful: frosted parks, snow-dusted mountains, and the stark clarity of low-angle winter light. I photograph here year-round and find something to love in every season.

Frequently asked questions

  • How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for portrait sessions; weddings, three to six months. Fall is the most popular season — book early if you want October availability.
  • What happens if the weather is bad? We reschedule at no charge. Overcast skies are actually ideal for portraits — soft, even light that flatters everyone.
  • How many images will I receive? Typically 30 to 80 fully edited images, depending on session length, delivered through a private online gallery.
  • Is there a travel fee from Ogden? No. South Jordan is within my regular service area. I drive down I-15 for sessions across the Salt Lake Valley without any travel surcharge.
  • Do you sell prints and albums? Yes — lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums are all available through your gallery. I handle the printing to ensure accurate, beautiful color.
  • Can we bring our pet? Please do. Leash for safety, treats for bribery, patience for everyone. Pets are part of the family and I love including them.
