If you’ve been looking for a Sunset photographer, I’m glad you landed here. I photograph families, seniors, maternity sessions, newborns, weddings, and branding work throughout Sunset and the surrounding Davis County communities. Sunset is a small, tight-knit town that often gets overlooked, but that’s part of what I love about it. There’s a quiet, genuine quality to this place — front porches, big skies, and neighbors who actually know each other. That energy carries right into sessions, and the images always feel grounded because of it.
Shooting in the heart of Sunset, Utah
Sunset is compact but full of character. Wedged between Clinton to the north, Clearfield to the south, and Syracuse to the west, it has a central location that makes it easy to reach beautiful spots in any direction. But Sunset itself has plenty to offer — open parks, quiet streets with mature trees, and some of the most cooperative evening light in Davis County thanks to its flat, unobstructed western horizon. The sunsets here genuinely live up to the name.
Because I also work frequently in Clinton, Clearfield, Roy, and Syracuse, I know the area well. If a session starting in Sunset and drifting to a nearby trail or field sounds right, I’m all for it. The best sessions aren’t always about one perfect location — sometimes it’s about following the light wherever it leads.
What I photograph in Sunset
Families
Families in Sunset tend to be laid-back, and that translates to some of my favorite sessions. When people are relaxed — especially kids — the real moments come through. I photograph families of every shape and size, from brand-new parents with their first baby to multi-generational groups that need a bit of wrangling. I’ll direct you enough that everyone looks great, but loose enough that your actual personalities shine through. The tickle attacks, the piggyback rides, the whispered jokes — those are the images you’ll treasure most.
Weddings & Elopements
As a Sunset wedding photographer, I’ve worked with couples who prefer intimacy over extravagance. A backyard ceremony with close family, a small reception at a nearby hall, an elopement at golden hour in an open field — these are the kinds of weddings I love most. I bring a calm, observational style to wedding photography. I’m not going to pose you into something unnatural. I’m going to capture what’s already happening and make sure the light is beautiful while I do it.
Maternity
Sunset’s wide-open spaces make maternity sessions feel expansive and serene. I love working in the open fields west of town or finding a quiet spot in one of the local parks where the evening light wraps around you beautifully. Scheduling between 28 and 34 weeks gives us the ideal belly shape and enough comfort that you can move freely. Bring a dress that makes you feel incredible, and I’ll handle the rest.
Newborns
For newborn sessions, I come to your home. No loading the car seat, no stress. Just you, your baby, and the soft window light that Sunset homes provide so well. I keep things simple — clean wraps, minimal props, and a focus on the tiny details that change so fast. Your baby’s curled toes, their hand wrapped around your finger, the way they sleep on dad’s chest. These are the moments worth preserving, and in-home sessions let them happen naturally.
Senior Pictures
Sunset seniors have the advantage of variety close to home. We can stay local for a natural, grassy-field look, head to Clearfield or Layton for something more urban, or drive ten minutes to Antelope Island for something dramatic. I tailor every senior session to the individual — what they’re into, what they want to remember about this chapter, and how they want to feel when they look at these photos years from now. Cookie-cutter senior pictures aren’t my thing.
Real Estate & Branding
As a Sunset branding photographer, I provide professional imagery for local businesses, home-based entrepreneurs, and real estate listings. Whether you need a clean headshot, lifestyle photos for your Instagram, or interior photography for a listing, I bring a consistent eye for composition and light. The images are polished and professional without feeling cold or corporate — approachable and real, just like the businesses I work with.
Sunset locations and when they shine
Location scouting is something I genuinely enjoy, and Sunset has some overlooked gems. Here are spots I return to often:
| Location | Look & Feel | Best Time |
|---|---|---|
| Sunset Park (Main St & 200 N) | Green lawns, large trees, community feel, accessible for all ages | Spring through fall, golden hour |
| Sunset Equestrian Park | Rustic fencing, pasture fields, open sky, country aesthetic | Summer and fall, sunset |
| Clinton Frontage Trail (nearby) | Paved path through fields, wildflowers in season, mountain backdrop | Late spring and summer, evening |
| Clearfield Aquatic Center fields | Wide open grass, mountain views, well-maintained | Year-round, golden hour |
| Open fields along 1800 N (west side) | Unobstructed sunset views, tall grasses, big sky feel | Late summer and fall, sunset |
If you have a place in mind — your backyard, a family member’s property, a random field you pass every day and think “that would be a great photo spot” — tell me about it. I’m always happy to explore new locations, and some of my best work happens when a client leads the way.
Planning your session without the fuss
- Wardrobe that photographs well: Earthy tones, soft pastels, and neutral colors photograph beautifully. Avoid bold graphics, logos, and anything you wouldn’t normally wear. Comfort shows in photos — pick something you feel great in.
- Timing that flatters: Sunset (the time of day, not just the town) is everything here. That last hour of light turns ordinary fields into something cinematic. I’ll set the time based on the season so the light does the heavy lifting.
- Kids, snacks, sanity: Pack their favorite snack, accept that meltdowns might happen, and trust me to work through it. I’ve photographed enough toddlers to know that the two minutes of cooperation between tantrums often produce the best images.
- Movement over stiffness: I’ll give you prompts — walk toward me, look at each other, pick up your kid and spin. Natural movement creates natural expressions, and that’s what looks best on your walls.
For maternity sessions, flowing fabrics and solid colors let your belly be the focus. Newborn prep is easy — a warm room, a fed baby, and a relaxed timeline. Senior sessions benefit from two or three outfit changes and an open mind about where the session takes us.
Style you can count on
I photograph with a Nikon Z6III paired with fast prime lenses, and I chase natural light like it owes me money. My editing style is clean, warm, and honest. I don’t drench images in orange tones or trendy presets. Your skin looks like your skin. The evening light looks like the evening light. Colors are true and warm without being oversaturated. Every gallery includes black and white edits, because some moments carry more weight in monochrome. My goal is timeless photography — images that look just as good on your wall in ten years as they do today.
Seasonal rhythm across Sunset
Spring in Sunset means fresh green grass and flowering trees — a clean, bright backdrop for any kind of session. Summer brings long evenings with golden light that stretches well past 8 PM, which is perfect for family sessions after work and dinner. Fall is the busiest season for a reason: the cottonwoods and elms throughout town turn warm yellows and oranges, and the cooler temperatures make outdoor sessions comfortable for everyone. Winter isn’t off limits — overcast skies create soft, even light, and a light dusting of snow turns familiar parks into something new. Every season has its own beauty here, and I make the most of all of them.
Quick answers for curious people
- How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for most sessions; weddings, three to six months.
- What if it rains? We reschedule at no cost. Overcast skies, though, are some of my favorite conditions.
- How many final images will I receive? Depends on session length, typically 30 to 80 fully edited images.
- Do you offer albums or prints? Yes. Lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums are available through your gallery.
- Can we bring our pet? Absolutely. Leash for safety, treats for bribery, and patience for everyone.
