If you’re searching for a Providence photographer, you’ve found one who knows this corner of Cache Valley well. I’m Jen Kunz, and I photograph families, weddings, maternity sessions, newborns, seniors, and branding work across Providence and the surrounding communities. Providence sits right against the mountains with some of the most beautiful light in the valley, and I never get tired of working here. Whether you live off Center Street or up near the bench, I’d love to create something honest and beautiful for you.

A quiet town with stunning backdrops

Providence is one of those places that feels like a well-kept secret, even though it’s just minutes from Logan. The foothills rise right behind town, the fields stretch west toward the valley floor, and the light here — especially in the hour before sunset — is some of the best I’ve ever worked in. I photograph sessions all across Cache County, from Wellsville to Smithfield, but Providence holds a special place because of how much variety you get in such a small area.

The trails above town lead to open meadows with mountain views that feel miles from anywhere, while the neighborhoods below offer tree-lined streets, old barns, and the kind of quiet that lets a family just relax and be themselves. I also work regularly in nearby Logan, River Heights, and Nibley, so if you have a favorite spot somewhere close, I’m happy to meet you there.

What I photograph in Providence

Families

Family sessions in Providence are some of my favorites because the setting does so much of the work. Kids can run through the grass, parents can breathe, and I get to capture what actually happens when everyone stops trying to pose. I work with families of every size and stage — newborns tucked against a parent’s chest, toddlers mid-sprint, teenagers who’d rather be anywhere else until the camera catches them laughing. The foothills and open fields around Providence give us space and light, and that combination makes for images that feel real.

Weddings & Elopements

As a Providence wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how Cache Valley weddings have their own character — intimate, grounded, and surrounded by mountains. Whether you’re planning a backyard celebration, a reception at a Logan venue, or an elopement up the canyon, I document the day as it unfolds. I’m not interested in manufacturing moments; I’m interested in catching the ones that matter. Providence and the surrounding valley offer gorgeous ceremony backdrops without the need to travel far.

Maternity

Maternity sessions in Providence work beautifully because the landscape does the heavy lifting. Soft light, open space, and a sense of calm that matches the moment you’re in. I keep maternity shoots simple and flattering — flowing fabrics, natural movement, nothing overdone. Most of my expecting clients book between 28 and 34 weeks, and we build the session around how you’re feeling that day.

Newborns

Newborn sessions happen in your home, which means Providence families get to stay exactly where they’re most comfortable. I work with natural window light and simple setups — no fussy props or complicated poses. The goal is to document your baby as they actually are in those first couple of weeks: tiny, sleepy, and held by the people who love them most. I typically photograph newborns within the first 14 days.

Senior Pictures

Senior portraits in Providence can range from mountain trail sessions to downtown Logan shoots, depending on your style. I work with seniors who want something more than a stiff yearbook photo — images that actually look like them, in places they connect with. The trails and fields around Providence give us a natural, relaxed setting, and I coach through the whole session so posing never feels awkward.

Real Estate & Branding

As a Providence branding photographer, I help small business owners and entrepreneurs show up with visuals that match the quality of their work. Whether you need updated headshots, lifestyle branding images, or real estate photography for a listing in Cache Valley, I bring the same clean, professional eye to commercial work that I bring to portraits. Good branding photography isn’t about looking perfect — it’s about looking like you, at your best.

Providence locations and when they shine

One of the best parts of shooting in Providence is how many options we have within a short drive. I’ve spent years learning where the light falls at different times of day and different seasons, so I can match a location to your session style without any guesswork.

Location Look & Feel Best Time
Providence Canyon Trail Mountain trail, wildflowers, creek crossings Late spring through early fall, golden hour
Zollinger Park Green grass, mature trees, open play areas Year-round, best light late afternoon
Spring Creek area fields Wide open meadows, mountain backdrop Summer and early fall sunset
Old Rock Church (Providence) Historic stone building, textured walls Any season, soft overcast or late afternoon
Dry Canyon trailhead Foothill views, sagebrush, rocky terrain Fall golden hour for warm tones

If none of these feel right, I’m open to scouting something new. Some of my best sessions have started with a client saying, “There’s this spot near our house…” and it turns out to be exactly what we needed.

Planning your session without the fuss

  • Wardrobe that photographs well: Soft, solid colors work best — think muted greens, dusty blues, creams, and warm neutrals. Avoid large logos and busy patterns that pull attention away from faces.
  • Timing that flatters: The last hour or two before sunset gives us the warmest, most even light. I’ll suggest a start time based on the season and location.
  • Kids, snacks, sanity: Bring snacks, bring bribes, bring patience. I’ve never met a toddler who performs on command, and that’s completely fine. The best kid photos come from letting them do their thing.
  • Movement over stiffness: Walk together, tickle someone, toss a kid in the air. I’ll direct you into flattering positions, but the magic happens when you forget the camera is there.

For maternity clients, I recommend loose, flowing dresses and comfortable shoes for walking to our location. Newborn families should keep the house warm and have a feeding ready to go. Seniors — wear something you actually like, not just what photographs “safely.” Your personality matters more than a color palette.

Style you can count on

I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and fast prime lenses that let me work in natural light without hauling around a studio’s worth of gear. My editing style is clean and true to life — I want your skin to look like skin, your colors to look like colors, and the light to feel like the actual moment. I don’t drench images in orange tint or desaturate everything into a moody haze. You’ll get honest color with warmth, accurate skin tones, and a finished look that won’t feel dated in five years. Every gallery also includes a curated set of black and white edits, because some moments just hit different without color.

Seasonal rhythm across Providence

Spring in Providence brings green hillsides and blossoming fruit trees — perfect for maternity and family sessions. Summer opens up the canyon trails and gives us long golden evenings. Fall is peak season for good reason: the maples and oaks along the foothills turn deep red and gold, and the light gets warmer as the days shorten. Winter slows things down, but snowy sessions against the mountains or cozy in-home newborn shoots have their own kind of beauty. Cache Valley’s seasons are dramatic, and every one of them gives us something to work with.

Quick answers for curious people

  • How far in advance should I book? Two to four weeks for most sessions; weddings, three to six months.
  • What if it rains? We reschedule at no cost. Overcast skies, though, are some of my favorite conditions.
  • How many final images will I receive? Depends on session length, typically 30 to 80 fully edited images.
  • Do you offer albums or prints? Yes. Lab-calibrated prints, canvases, and heirloom albums are available through your gallery.
  • Can we bring our pet? Absolutely. Leash for safety, treats for bribery, and patience for everyone.
